Glaciers to see — now


Located 48 miles from the Argentine town of El Calafate, the Perito Moreno Glacier is an exception in the area: Of the 50 or so southern Patagonian glaciers, only three are advancing, and Perito Moreno is one of them. With global warming in mind, we visit 10 of the world's scenic but receding temperate glaciers, including Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina and Furtwängler Glacier, receding as we speak near the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
