Discover the Galapagos Islands

Isla Santa Cruz, ECUADOR: (FILES) Picture taken 24 June 2006 shows tourists taking pictures of "Solitario George" (Lonely George), the last giant alive tortoise of this species, native from the Pinta Island, at the Galapagos National Parc in the Santa Cruz Island. UNESCO inscribed the Galapagos islands on the list of World Heritage in Danger, 26 June 2007. A mission confirmed the "growing encroachment of invasive species, increasing human immigration, uncontrolled development of tourism, and the failure of various institutions and agencies to deal with these threats".
