Chinese fear impact of Great Wall's 'Wonder' status

The Great Wall of China was selected as one of the new seven wonders of the world in a global poll announced Saturday, July 7, 2007. People throughout the world voted by Internet or phone message for the world's top architectural marvels, said New7Wonders, the nonprofit group conducting the balloting. Chinese are proud a global poll has named the Great Wall a wonder of the world, but some worry that tourism and neglect are destroying the crumbling fortification designed to defend against foreign invaders.
